Due to the outcome of SRCSD's final permit for its wastewater treatment plant (pending appeal outcome), ratepayers in every segment of the greater Sacramento region - homeowners, businesses, schools, government, etc. - will see their wastewater treatment rates increase significantly over the next decade. During that timeframe, it is likely that residential monthly rates will triple, and impact fees charged to new development will also see major increases.
SRCSD and local elected officials are working hard to find innovative ways to offset some of the high costs associated with treatment plant upgrades; however, it is expected that the majority of the anticipated costs will be borne by the Sacramento region.
What's next?
Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg and Assemblymember Roger Dickinson introduced legislation to assist the Sacramento region with future costs. Learn more about AB 134 and SB 52.
