Compliance Performance

SRCSD's overall permit compliance record, from 2000 to 2009, stands at an impressive 99.999%. SRCSD's robust monitoring program takes 8,000 individual measurements EACH DAY to track and assess its compliance in literally hundreds of required areas.

After undergoing a comprehensive and complete treatment process, Sacramento's treated wastewater is discharged into the Sacramento River, which is California's longest and largest river. This discharge is a relatively small percentage of the total volume of the Sacramento River - often constituting only 1% - 2%.

Wastewater discharges are significantly regulated under the federal Clean Water Act and State Water Code and operate under stringent permits that mandate they not have an impact on the ecosystem or environment. SRCSD meets or exceeds all regulatory standards and permit requirements, including USEPA aquatic life criteria for ammonia.
