Ammonia Facts

Despite the allegations and an aggressive misinformation campaign, no existing data demonstrates that, under current conditions, Sacramento’s treated wastewater is adversely impacting Delta fish. None of the hypotheses about ammonia’s impact have been adequately studied, and certainly none have been confirmed.

In fact, much of the research on this issue remains unfinished or incomplete. One such study – funded by the Delta water exporters and conducted by Patricia Glibert of the University of Maryland – has been questioned by several experts within the science community since it was released in June 2010.

SRCSD supports more research to yield comprehensive sound data and definitive answers. Until such data can be produced, the erroneous and unproven conclusions must be rejected.
